There are those days (all of us new bloggers have them LOL) when you feel as though nothing is springing to mind and clicking across the keyboard is original. Not one idea hasn’t been done before. No topic seems to be worthy of note. I know there have been times where I’ve sat in front of my blog for hours. Tying then deleting…typing then deleting…The #1 struggle with blogging is the insane amount of competition. Click To Tweet
So many people out there have stunning blog designs, well written posts, and quality photos. They’ll also be talking about the same topics. Why are us new bloggers even trying to break into this sphere when we have such fierce, overshadowing competition?
This sort of writer’s block can be the best thing to ever happen for your blog!
When you’re forced to confront this realization of overwhelming odds, you can go one of two ways. You can run far away from the challenge, or you can fight with everything you have to make yourself worthy of being followed alongside your blogging idols.
Look yourself in the mirror and realize it’s you that is unique, not your topics. This is the time to do some self reflecting. Pick yourself up by your cute summer sandals and make a list of all the amazing ways you stand out. Write them down. How can you use your inherent edge to your advantage?
Hone your voice.
Your blogging voice can be one of the top things that draw new followers in and keep them coming back to engage with your content. Why? They like your style. They vibe with how you say things.
A blogging voice is different than a term paper voice, email, or journal entry. It’s much more intimate, and must be honed over time. When you have that voice down, though, you’ll find writing comes easier, posts organically flow, and your engagement will skyrocket!
Find your twist.
When you’re writing on a topic you feel may have been written about before, you need to find your twist. What is the thing that will set your thoughts on this topic apart? Is it that you have a novel opinion? A new solution to an existing problem? A light-hearted approach to a topic that’s normally heavy?
This is it. This is the practice that will make your blog meaningful and original. Finding your twist on each and every post will be what makes you feel like your putting something meaningful out into the world for your readers. It will give you the confidence to keep at it.
The finished result?
Your blog will be better for it! Once you realize that nothing, no matter how much it’s talked about, is off limits, you’ll be looking at limitless opportunity to make every topic your own! The worry and the fear will dissipate, because you’ll know your someone worthy of being followed.
Your fans will appreciate a constant voice coming across their feed each day, and warm to your consistent charms. They’ll begin to trust your opinion and look forward to your twists.
And ultimately, your brand will grow, and you’ll have fun in the process!
