I feel like I’ve been hearing Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential talk about GG crackers for at least a year. I pretty much live for all of her recommendations, so I can only blame pure laziness for not hunting these crackers down and trying them sooner.
Here’s the lowdown on the crackers.
So far I’ve found these crackers, “GG Scandinavian Crispbread”, sold in single packages at Wholefoods and in bulk on Amazon. I’ve linked the option from Amazon in this article because it is definitely the better deal price-wise. They are made predominately from bran, have only 6 grams of carbs and 40 calories in 2 large crackers, and even have 1 gram of protein. Aptly labeled “The Appetite Control Cracker”, having two of these as a snack or part of a meal completely fills me up for hours.
I’ve been trying to cut down on carbs, since I tend to lean on them as a pescatarian. These crackers have totally filled the void. As long as I have two of these incorporated into my lunch or dinner during the day – I feel like I’ve had carbs and I’m satisfied. For everyone trying to eat a bit healthier and maybe lose a little weight, these are a great tool!
Now, I’m going to be honest here. They are super crunchy and strong enough to hold a variety of toppings, but alone they have literally no seasoning. I wouldn’t recommend adding these to your diet without committing to being creative with topping combinations.
A few of my favorite topping combinations:
1. Tuna and Spicy Sliced Pepperoncini Peppers
2. Chipotle Smoked Gouda and Roasted Red, Green, and Yellow Peppers
3. Peanut Butter and Banana Slices
4. Mozarella, Fresh Basil, Olive Oil, Salt, and Pepper
5. Mayo, Tomate Slice, Lettuce, Salt, Pepper, and Veggie Bacon
Get creative! If anyone discovers a great combination, let me know! I’m thinking of cooking up something with a little salmon…
