Pop in and try FORGE!
This coffee shop / restaurant / ice-cream parlor opened about a year ago in Somerville, MA. Now, I’m definitely a loyal Starbucks customer, but I make it a point to support local businesses!
Forge is nestled in the corner of a small strip mall on Somerville Avenue. The building looks like it was once a warehouse, but somehow, it feels homey! I love the industrial feel. It’s open and lofty with high ceilings and a barn door separating the cafe from the ice-cream parlor.
In the cafe, there are colorful pieces by local artists hanging on the walls, black iron chair rails, gorgeous wooden tables and matching chairs.
The ice-cream parlor is super old-fashioned with tile flooring, leather upholstered metal stools, and an array of vintage glass containers brimming with candies behind the counter.
Both sides of Forge were EXTREMELY conscious of my nut allergy!
I ordered a latte off the fun chalkboard menu and watched the barista clean the machine at LEAST 10 times before brewing me one of the most delectable cups of caffeinated goodness I’ve ever had. The cup was HUGE (honestly, it was more like a bowl)!
Plus, take a look at that foam design. COME ON.
The two lovely ladies behind the ice-cream counter informed me that their ice-cream is made onsite. They also fully sterilize the machine in between flavors. If you have an allergy like me, they’ll open up a whole new container of any flavor you’d like (if an unopened box is available) and use a brand new scoop to serve your ice-cream! I can’t remember the last time I had ice-cream from a shop without being afraid. WAY TO GO FORGE!!!
If you’re a regular or stop in on my suggestion, what’s your favorite goodie on the menu?
ps. Their breakfast looks amazing, and they even have grits!
