There’s something about Italian…
Maybe I’m biased since I’m Italian (…and Armenian…and French…and Romani according to my Mimi LOL), but whenever I find myself craving comfort food, I head to Boston’s North End and Trattoria Il Panino.
I’ve been frequenting Trattoria on Parameter Street for six years now. SIX YEARS. I stumbled across this little hole-in-the-wall one night with a few girlfriends. I still remember the gnocchi I had. Yum. This place has been my go-to ever since.
Every member of the establishment has gone out of their way to remember me and my family, remember my food allergies, and remember to embody the spirit of the North End. Welcoming patrons into the restaurant is like welcoming a large, extended Italian family home for a meal.
Now let’s talk Trattoria’s food.
I’ve tried everything on the menu without red meat (vegetarian / pescatarian), but let me gush over a few favorites. For appetizers, BY far the two I’ve enjoyed most are the calamari and the mozzarella caprese.
The calamari is covered in the perfect amount of light batter and fried to perfection without being greasy. Tossed with hot pepper slices and served with lemon and red dipping sauce, it’s full of flavor without losing the squid.
The mozzarella caprese is a wonderful presentation of homemade mozzarella that truly does melt in your mouth with yummy basil, sweet red and yellow tomato slices, and a decadent drizzle of balsamic to cap it off.
As for dinner, I have more than a few favorites..
Love spicy? I’d go with the penne arrabbiata. Make sure you take the sprinkle of cheese when they ask. You’re going to want it to tone down those jalapeños!
Lobster fan? You can’t go wrong with the lobster ravioli. It’s creamy and delicious. Period.
Starving and want the heaviest dish on the menu? Order the gnocchi. Hands down.
Traditional when it comes to your pasta consumption and just want some good, old-fashioned pasta and red sauce? The penne pomodoro will be the best you’ve ever had.
Plus, did I mention the pasta comes out in the pan it was cooked in?
THE PAN! There’s nothing like your food staying piping hot from the first bite to the last.
May your arrabbiata be spicy, your calamari be crunchy, and your prosecco be bubbly –
